Project Updates

April 8, 2024

  • On Saturday April 13, 2023, the current southbound lane of Saddle Creek Road, between Emile Street and Marcy Street, will be closed to construct the new southbound lanes of Saddle Creek Road north and south of Leavenworth Street. 

  • This closure will take place during the day (6:00 am to 7:00 pm).

February 23, 2024

  • Saddle Creek Road will be head-to-head traffic in the northbound lanes as the southbound lanes will be closed for removals and utility work. 

  • All left turns at the Saddle Creek and Leavenworth intersection will need to be restricted to maintain of traffic movement through the intersection.

  • Access to businesses will be maintained through other entrances or side streets.

  • Traffic on Leavenworth will continue to be head-to-head.

  • Motorists are advised to utilize alternate routes and to expect lane shifts.

February 14, 2024

  • Traffic on Leavenworth will be head-to-head. No left turns will be permitted at the intersection of Saddle Creek and Leavenworth. Motorists are advised to utilize alternate routes and to expect lane shifts.

December 1, 2023

  • 46th & Farnam is now open to traffic.

  • The Emile Street connection is anticipated to be complete April 2024.

  • Construction along Saddle Creek Road and Leavenworth Street is anticipated to begin May 2024. However, utility work may start in advance of this date.

January 17, 2024

UNMC and the City of Omaha hosted a Public Open House to share the construction timeline and phasing for the intersection of Saddle Creek and Leavenworth.

February 15, 2023

UNMC and the City of Omaha hosted a Public Pre-Construction Meeting to share planned improvements near UNMC’s campus at Saddle Creek Road.

Improvements will include new and improved roadway connections, sidewalks and street lighting. Updated traffic signals will be constructed on Saddle Creek Road at the Emilie Street and Leavenworth Street intersections. A new traffic signal will be installed at 46th & Farnam streets.

These improvements are necessary to accommodate the additional traffic expected as part of the development and expansion of UNMC’s campus west of Saddle Creek Road.
